Nurses tell Flagstaff Med. Ctr. Board of Directors, "Stop Violating Labor Laws and Our Rights!" - 5:00 Rally Today at FMC
FMC Registered Nurses, supported by their families, firefighters, teachers & representatives from labor groups, will gather today in an appeal to the Flagstaff Medical Center Board of Directors to stop violating nurses' rights in their campaign to join together and win a voice for patient care with the National Nurses Organizing Committee.
Nurses want to negotiate a contract addressing safe patient care policies, and salaries and benefits that allow the of recruiting and retention of the most qualified nurses.
The hospital has retained Global Labor Employment Strategies (GLES), notorious anti-union consultants, to conduct a visous union-busting campaign aimed at nurses exercising their union rights. An election is scheduled for June 21 and 22.
Date: Thursday, June 8, 2006 Time: 5:00pm to 6:00pm Place: Flagstaff Med. Ctr. 1215 Beaver St. -West Campus- (outdoor street corner) 150 yds south of corner of Beaver & Forest
Nurses will reveal examples of supervisors who are illegally:
- tearing down RN's union literature while other literature is allowed to be posted
- directing RNs to remove union buttons while other buttons are allowed to be worn
- telling nurses that they may lose certain economic benefits if the union wins
- interrogating nurses about union support and activities
- retaliating against nurses who support the union
Nurses want to inform the Board about what is happening inside and gain a commitment from them to direct their managers to comply with labor laws. The RNs are preparing to file charges with the federal labor board if such commitments cannot be assured. |
