Arizona Patient Protection

On November 13th, 14th and 15th Arizona nurses united throughout the state to discuss the introduction of statewide legislation titled the "Arizona Patient Protection Act", nurses were successful in this effort!  The Arizona Patient Protection Act is known as HB 2041.  HB 2041 will do the following:

  • Mandate safe staffing, based on patient acuity, by setting the minimum direct-care registered nurse-to-patient staffing ratios necessary for safe nursing care and for retention and recruitment of qualified direct-care RNs.
  • Establish direct-care RN nursing standards and practice protections to assure that care is provided in the exclusive interests of patients.
  • Recognize direct-care nurses’ duty and right to be a patient advocate.
  • Provide effective protection against retaliation for reporting unsafe patient care and for refusing unsafe patient care assignments.
